Xiaomi Mi A2: Mid-range Powerhouse and Cheap
Xiaomi Mi A1 started the first trip to take on the Android one OS. This year, two Xiaomi is making two Mi A2 devices – the standard Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite.
The mid-range Xiaomi Mi A2 Phone retains the familiar Xiaomi body with Google’s internal organs. This means it has the same physical build as other Xiaomi, or basically any Android phone out there, but will be running on Android 8.1 Oreo and will receive regular updates via Android One.
Display and Design
This phone has a 5.99-inch IPS LCD and 3mm taller than its predecessor. It has slim surrounding bezels, 19:9 aspect ratio, and 2160x1080 Full HD+ resolution while Mi A2 Lite has a slightly higher pixel at 2280x1080. Not totally bad for a mid-range phone.
This flagship is just basically following the design of Mi A1 except for the re-orientation of the rear cameras to a vertical layout and the flash relocated to the center of the dual camera. The display is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 and available in several colors such as Black, Blue, Gold, Red and Rose Gold for Mi A2 standard and Black, Blue or Gold for the Lite version.
Both versions will be running with Snapdragon 600-series: Standard at 660 and Lite at 625. They are also powered by Adreno 512 GPU which should allow users to enjoy a mid-range gaming. You can even play PUBG and Fortnite at mid-graphics.
The Mi A2 comes in several configurations ranging from 4GB of RAM with 32 or 64GB of storage and a 6GB of RAM version with 128GB of internal storage. The Mi A2 Lite has 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage or 4GB with 64GB. Both expandable by MicroSD.
This is where Xiaomi truly matters. Since the A1 received a lot of camera improvement requests, they poured all of these requests to the A2.
The dual rear camera comes with a 12MP f/1.75 lens with 1.25-micron pixels with a 20MP f/1.75 lens for better low light performance. They share the same aperture. The front camera has the same Sony IMX376 sensor at 20MP with f/2.2 aperture and support for HDR and Super Pixels. It also added a few high-standard camera features such as video stabilization, time-lapse, and slow-motion.
The front camera can even record videos at 1080p and the rear camera up to 4K quality with stabilization.
The two Mi A2 currently runs on Android 8.1 Oreo powered by Android One but the company say that it will be updated to Android P soon. It is still unclear if the company will provide an option for users to choose between sticking to the original OS or force them to switch to Android P.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 price is 249 euros for the 4GB/32GB memory option, and 279 euros for 4GB/64GB and 349 euros for the 6GB/128GB option.
The Mi A2 Lite starts at 179 euros for 3GB/32GB memory and 229 euros for 4GB/64GB. Starting in late July, both devices will be made available in Spain and 40 other countries.
Mi A1 was considered a successful flagship being one of the Top 10 best selling smartphones in the world as reported in February 2018 and just five months after its launch. We can expect the same from Xiaomi Mi A2.
