Xperia XZ2 Premium
Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact were released over a month ago featuring high-end media functionality and getting more than what we can expect from Sony. Just when we thought Sony has nothing else left under its sleeve this year, they suddenly announced a new addition to the XZ2 Family – Xperia XZ2 Premium.
Xperia XZ2 Premium almost share the same specs as the regular XZ2, but better in some way. It has 4K resolution, HDR quality at 5.8-inches, dual cameras at the rear, and has the highest ISO sensitivity compared to all mobile phones in the market.
Sony’s 4K HDR is also known to be 30% brighter than the last version. The dual-camera has the standard color sensor, but the notable feature is that they have a different black-and-white sensor. Sony believes that having this feature will greatly improve the photography experience and proves to show better results.
You can also shoot using the black-and-white feature for a more dramatic effect or use both cameras at once for a boosted bokeh depth-of-field effect. Sony also geared the camera with better ISO up to ISO12800 for video and a crazy ISO51200 for photos. The front camera has a 13MP sensor that is way better than the 5MP front camera from the previous models.
It also has 6GB of RAM which is not present on the regular XZ2. As for the processor, we could expect the same cutting-edge Qualcomm® Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform with X20 LTE that its relative phones have. And of course, it’s on Android 8.0 Oreo.
There is also no news if Sony upgraded other notable specs such as audio quality and other in-app features. Although there is nothing much to improve with the audio since the S-Force Front Surround is already impressive being the loudest Xperia speaker ever without sacrificing audio quality. The audio enhancing technologies, Hi-res Audio, DSHEE HX, and LDAC, are also something we can thank Sony for.
One of the common problems with Sony Phone is the battery. Many reports have been filed that Sony battery easily deteriorate and it’s difficult to replace. We hope that Sony will find a solution for this long-running problem this year. For the XZ2 Premium’s case, it has bigger camera capacity coming with 3540mAh as compared to the older versions that have 3180mAh.
The battery also includes useful features such as Smart Stamina, STAMINA mode, Battery Care and Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology to help the battery stay healthy and to give you a longer battery lifespan.
The new addition to the XZ2 Family will come with just two-color options - Chrome Black and Chrome Silver. But, these colors are already exclusive and top-end, so we couldn’t ask for more. Plus, they look stunning and you’ll know it’s expensive just by glancing at it.
The Xperia XZ2 Premium is also expected to be pricier than the previous XZ2s. But, that could be expected with its bump in specs. Although Sony did not announce the actual price just yet, we might already have a clue on how much it will be.
Its predecessors were priced around $799, we can expect the XZ2 Premium to cost around $899 having only minimal upgrades. The phone is expected to be launched this summer 2018 in the US. Basically, it’s just around the corner.
