Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Better S-Pen, Better Overall
Samsung has finally revealed the ninth version of the classic Samsung flagship Galaxy Note. Thanks to the S-Pen, this flagship has survived for almost a decade now and continues to grow bigger, better, and more expensive. Don’t mind the latter.
Join us as we unveil the latest flagship – Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
We thought that it’s great to discuss more of the S-Pen since it’s the reason why consumers love the Galaxy Note.
The amazing pen now supports Bluetooth LE, allowing it to act more than just a pen, but also as a remote control for your Galaxy Note 9. The Bluetooth functionality can be customized to whatever app you want to use the following commands: single press, double press, and press-and-hold.
For instance, if you customize the S-Pen’s Bluetooth to the camera app, you can now take selfies without pressing the screen button. Just use the S-Pen.
The screen-off memo was also upgraded. Aside from just capturing a note on the screen while the display is turned off, the text in screen-off memo mode will match the color of your S-Pen.
With the remote capabilities of the S-Pen, this also means it now needs to charge. Samsung did not reveal the battery capacity of the S-Pen, but their official statement was a fully-charged battery should be enough for 200 clicks or 30 minutes standby. It also comes with a supercapacitor allowing it to charge fully for only 40 seconds.
The stylus is now available in different colors matching whatever Galaxy Note 9 color you choose.
Most of the specs found in the Galaxy Note 8 are the same in Note 9. Samsung has focused more on developing the S-Pen than the phone.
The biggest improvement we noticed in this latest Note is the battery. It now comes with a 4,000 mAh battery, a huge step up compared to its predecessor’s 3,300 mAh. Samsung claims this allows an all-day battery probably around seven to eight hours. Moreover, it is equipped with fast wired and supports both Qi and PMA wireless charging.
As for connectivity, the hardware was improved to LTE Cat. 18 with 4x4MIMO and Carrier Aggregation allowing 1.2Gbps download speed and Bluetooth 5.0.
The camera has the same hardware as the Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 with added intelligence. Samsung has added the form of scene and flaw detection for the Note 9 to automatically improve photos. It can detect 20 different scenes, fine-tune the settings to match the scene, and boost the colors.
The flaw detection, as described by the manufacturer itself, will tell you when there’s a problem with the photo, allowing you to recapture it right away before the scene disappears. The problems as specified could be slightly blurry, unexpected movement, smudged lens, or poor backlight.
The Galaxy Note 9 will be available in stores starting August 24, with pre-orders launching tomorrow, August 10 (Eastern Daylight Time). The base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will cost $999, while the 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage costs $1,249.
