4 Android Apps You Can Use to Save the World

4 Android Apps You Can Use to Save the World

Are you a social activist? Do you feel frustrated not being able to help people in other countries?

Fortunately, there’s an app for that! There are plenty of social activist-type apps on the Google Play Store. You can use these apps to support international development or feed a homeless child.

Ultimately, you can feel better about yourself while also making the world a better place.

Here are 4 Android apps you can use to save the world:

4) HTC Power to Give

HTC Power to Give may be my favorite charity app because it doesn’t ask for your money: it just asks for your phone’s processing power.

All you have to do is let the HTC Power to Give app run in the background of your phone while it’s asleep. All that spare processing power can be put to good use. You can choose between multiple projects (they change on a regular basis).

Currently, Power to Give projects include “SETI” (the Search for Extra Terrestrial Life), “SIMAP”, which is a biology and medicine project, and PrimeGrid, which involves mathematics and computing.

The best part about this app is that it doesn’t steal your battery life or really affect you in any negative way: it will only run when your phone is plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi.

If you want to give back but don’t actually feel like donating any money, then HTC Power to Give is an excellent app to download.

3) One Today

One dollar might not mean much to you, but it means a lot to a child in need. One Today takes that concept and turns it into a powerful app.

With One Today, you get a different project every day. Projects are tailored to your unique needs and interests. If you feel like supporting the project, you can give a dollar to the cause.

Recent causes include feeding the homeless, donating to the poor, and spreading education to developing countries.

In some cases, the creator of the cause will even match your donation. So your $1 magically turns into $2 and has an even more powerful impact.

One Today was created and developed by Google, Inc. (heard of them?). So you know the causes are certified and well-established.

2) PetMatch

Just like HTC Power to Give, PetMach doesn’t require you to give any money to charity. Instead, PetMatch simply asks you to give a cute pet a loving home.

With PetMatch, you get to find cats and dogs available for adoption in your local area. Many of the pets are in overcrowded shelters. In some cases, you’ve even saving a life.

But the killer feature of PetMatch is being able to take a picture of a dog you like and then view “matches” for that pet in your local area. So if you take a picture of a cute black Labrador, then you’ll be able to see other cute black Labradors available for adoption nearby.

The app works surprisingly well. If you like a certain type of dog, then this is the best way to find a dog that looks similar to that type nearby.

If you don’t have a picture of a dog nearby, or can’t find a picture online, then PetMatch also has a huge gallery of sample pets to get you started. PetMatch is also responsible for the term “Pelfie”, which is a pet selfie.

Download PetMatch today and start looking for a new cat or dog to add to your home.

1) Blood Donor

One of the cool things about America is that you can sell your blood for cash. It’s one of the only countries in the world where you can do that (in Australia and Brazil, it’s actually illegalto get paid any compensation for blood).

Where you’re looking to make a quick buck or just want to feel good about yourself, you can download the Blood Donor app from the Google Play Store.

This app connects you with a Red Cross blood drive or blood clinic nearby. You can also login to your account and view your donation history.

Oh, and unless you’re donating blood plasma, you probably won’t get paid for your blood. That’s why it’s called a “donation” and not a “job.”

Conclusion – Do smartphones make the world a better place?

The next time someone asks you if all this technology is ruining our lives, just tell them that you can change the world with your smartphone.

I know there are other apps that you can use to make the world a better place – share your suggestions in the comments section below!
